Joy Luck Club - The Ladies

Every tuesday, my 91 year old grand-mother has her friends come over for a whole day of mahjong, only interrupted by one little lunch break... (pic, Manila, 2009)

- there is a wonderful and beautiful 1994 movie called Joy Luck Club, from Wayne Wang and based on the novel of Amy Tan, about four women around a mahjong game, their destiny in China and the effects on their American daughters -

Time machine

Paris, Metro station Porte de Choisy, 2006.

In 2006, they started renovating the metro station and removed all the ads that were piling one over another. Last appeared this ad dating of 1994 for an art exhibit.

I liked it, it felt like being suddenly brought back in the past, just by taking the metro. And I like how it seems as if Matisse himself is holding the ad against the wall with his drawing stick.

Urban rainbow and coming storm in the French countryside

Rainbow over the Chinese quarter in the 13th arrondissement of Paris - despite an architecture from the 70s, very lively and lovely neighborhood, 2006.

(Road trip) around Hanoi

The first week of April, we had a three day extended week-end in Vietnam. With some friends, we went on a motorbike trip around Hanoi (Hoa Binh, Mai Chau, Ninh Binh, Tam Coc and back to Hanoi). The landscapes were fabulous, some that I had never seen before... Sleeping in a minority village was amazing and incredibly peaceful after the joyful hassle of Saigon.
