Bo Kaap district, Cape Town, South Africa, February 2019
A beautiful Muslim district with lovely resilient residents, which is in danger of real estate development. In such a sensitive historical and social context (and in light of the horrifying District 6 faith) - it appears so important to preserve a community and help it retain its identity and its soul.
Bo Kaap may very well soon become a mecca of poke-bowls, airbnbs (like the Water Kant) and specialty coffee. With the friendly veiled women and kufi wearing men pushed far away in the 'suburbs' or townships.

I sometimes feel like an Instagram hipster tourist, oblivious of local complexities and searching a globalised superficial aesthetic.
